Qualification: Graduate of Colorado State University, over 30 years of working with cattle
Comments/ Life History : Wes, a Colorado native, came to Tennessee in 1986 and in 1989 joined with Dr. Lowell Stonecipher to form Cattage Farm Genetics, Inc. Wes obtained an extensive background in male and female reproduction while attending Colorado State University. Working with animals having reproductive performance problems, both male and female, has been very useful in the service sector CFG. Nearly 30 years of daily application of these practices and continually trying to explore new research in this field helps to keep Wes in touch with his clients' needs. Wes has always been around cattle. Growing up with Horned Herefords allowed him to start showing cattle through FFA in 1974. His first show steer, a Limousin Hereford half blood, was grand champion at the Colorado State Fair and gained his interest in Limousin cattle. While attending CSU, Wes worked collecting and feeding bulls for the first bull stud to actually import and own exotic breeds, BOV Imports in Denver, CO. At this time, he was breeding and showing Limousin cattle at the National Western Stock Show. Later, Wes started working at the animal reproduction center at Colorado State University. Collecting, experimenting with new semen collection techniques, and understanding problems encountered in the bull's sperm transport system were a few of the areas he was involved in. Wes was then acting manger of the semen laboatory before coming to Tennessee. "My goals and focus on working with cattle in this way comes from the direction of four main people in my life--Emmett Klipfel, Bobby Prosser, 'Bud' Prosser, and Dr. Merlin Gebauer." Activities: Raising and graduating two children, Megan and Wesley, with his wife of 25 years, Rhonda. He enjoys cattle, fly-fishing, gardening, and woodworking.
